YIHUA Singapore Containerized Industrial Wastewater Treatment Project

1. Project Background

Singapore, as Southeast Asia's industrial and technological hub, is home to the Jurong Industrial Estate – its largest and most densely concentrated industrial zone, hosting numerous precision manufacturing, electronic component, and biopharmaceutical enterprises. Our client is a local semiconductor component manufacturer in East Jurong, specializing in high-precision metal structural parts. The production process generates industrial wastewater containing cutting fluids and surface treatment agents, with a daily volume of approximately 80m³.

Singapore enforces some of the strictest industrial wastewater discharge standards in Southeast Asia. Under the Sewage and Effluent Discharge Standards, enterprises must pretreat wastewater to meet limits such as COD ≤80mg/L, BOD ≤20mg/L, and SS ≤30mg/L before discharging it into the municipal sewer network. Additionally, land in the Jurong Industrial Estate is extremely scarce. After expanding its facility, the client had no extra space for a traditional on-site constructed wastewater treatment plant and needed equipment installed and commissioned within 45 days to ensure the new production line could start on schedule.

2. Key Challenges

• Space Constraints: Only 25㎡ of available installation area, making traditional on-site construction impossible and demanding extreme equipment integration.

• Complex Water Quality: The industrial wastewater contains trace emulsified oils and metal ions, requiring treatment processes that balance organic degradation and impurity removal.

• 3Stringent Standards: Compliance with Singapore's municipal sewer discharge requirements and certification by the National Environment Agency (NEA) was mandatory.

• Tight Timeline: Equipment had to be fully operational and certified before the new production line launch, leaving zero room for delays.

3. Solution

YiHua Environmental tailored a containerized integrated industrial wastewater treatment system to meet Singapore's stringent requirements and the project's specific pain points. The system successfully passed NEA's pre-treatment equipment compliance review, making us the client's only qualified supplier.

High Integration: All treatment units (screening, demulsification, MBBR bioremediation, membrane filtration, disinfection) are housed in a 40-foot container, requiring only 25㎡ of space and perfectly fitting the facility's constraints.

Customized Treatment: An efficient demulsification module was added to target semiconductor component wastewater characteristics, paired with specialized MBBR bio-media to effectively degrade organic pollutants from cutting fluids, while precision filtration removes suspended solids and trace metal impurities.

Smart Operation: An intelligent monitoring system was integrated with the client's factory MES system, enabling real-time transmission of water quality data and equipment status. Automatic alerts for exceedances and chemical dosing ensure minimal manpower requirements.

Local Compliance: The equipment body uses corrosion-resistant galvanized steel with an epoxy coating to withstand Singapore's high humidity and salt spray. The electrical system complies with Singapore's SS 309 safety standards and holds NEA certification.

4. Project Outcomes

100% Compliance: During commissioning and the subsequent six months of monitoring, effluent quality consistently exceeded Singapore's municipal discharge limits, with COD stable at 55-70mg/L, BOD ≤15mg/L, and SS ≤20mg/L.

On-time Delivery: The project was completed in just 43 days, two days ahead of the client's 45-day deadline, ensuring the new production line started on schedule.
